    • david: Hi All, Well I have been told that I am the only one of 14 that can actually use words, so it has been put on me to give you an update of how the Tour is going. ( I feel I have been suckered in!) to give you an overview of what we have thought of the NI so far. It has been very warm and humid. We have only had light warm drizzle in Northland and sun everywhere else. the mozzies bite at night and you spend 10 mins each night killing them with jandals! The terrain has been a lot more hilly than we expected and our speed average is well down on what we thought it would be so that is making our ride time greater than expected. I know you constantly see us in cafes but we are actually on our bikes for 7.5-8.5 hours per day! that brings me to the small matter of tender nether regions!! We are going through copious amounts of bum butter and pressure sore ointments! One of the team, who will remain nameless even had a bleeding derriere! This is leading to a rather uncomfortable time while in the saddle! the hills are a blessing as we can stand up! We are climbing 2000-2500ms each day at present. The distance we are travelling is more than we estimated as we decide to take detours or get lost! Yesterday we had fun when the group had two leaders and both said they knew which way to go and we ended up going in two directions! One group thought they were ahead of the other but they were actually behind. this led to Rod texting everyone to see where both groups were, until they finally hooked up! lesson learnt- only let one person give directions! Today we left Raglan and travelled 193 Ks to Taumarunui. We are staying at kellys Motel and a train has just gone by on the main trunk line and shaken our room- could make for an interesting nights sleep! the hottest it got today was 33 degrees! The roads were pretty good but when we were on the main road for a time the travel was busy and the BIG trucks were pretty courtesy with us, probably because Rod was doing such a great job of warning them of our presence. So far we have had 5 punctures and small mechanicals. Everyone is still enjoying the Tour, tomorrow we cover 165 Ks so more bum butter will be needed!!!!

    • richard: Just another coffee stop! Glorious ride from National Park to rethink. Out of the shadow of ruapaehu alongside dense bush we cruise down through clean farmland to rethink. Sadly there was cloud cover over the mountains so we are short on landscape shots. The wind seems in our direction for our next stage of the journey to whanganui.
    • Iain: Thanks for the blog, it's great to hear what you're up too. R u going to post any video I see some helmet mounted camera's in various photo's. Was the "H" in W(h)anganui left out as a political statement or some apologist for Mr Law's?
