    • Mark W: Looks like an earlier start this morning boys? Still dark!
    • david: ‚ó¶david: As we had a long way to go we set our alarms for a 7am start. It was dark when we set out and Geoffs headlight blinded everyone when he turned to tell you one one of his 'corny' jokes which were bloody funny at this time of the morning or he broke into song usually making up his own words!! His most famous original poem was an Ode to Gribby. It went like this:- Gribby come back, Gribby come Back! He's at the head of the pack! He's on the Attack! Cut him no slack! PEEDAAAL!!!!!!!!!! To be sung at the top of your voice as we descended hills and gribby started pedalling frantically away so he would get a run at the next uphill! Geoff also had one for his beloved mudguard which was decorated with flax and Toi Toi. We called him the conservation Terrorist as there will be flax and Toi Toi's sprouting up by road sides all the way from Reinga to bluff with the amount of seeds he was dropping!! Anyway I digress. The first leg was extremely fast ast it was virtually downhill to Pukaki. The first hour was really cold and those that had light gloves could not feel there hands after half an hour and in the end we called a halt so heavier, warmer gloves could be put on. It was also hard for those that wanted a pee as cold hands and counter sunk willies makes the whole procedure difficult! . The sun was warmed up so it was a welcome stop to look at the awesome scenery. We carried on to Omarama at a good clip enjoying the fact that we were making good time. After a nice lunch we headed off to tackle the Linda's Pass those who felt strong charged up the hill while the rest of us took it at a more sedate pace. After a photo session it was a 13k descend to the bottom couple more climbs before Tarras and then flattish and fast thru the Gorge to clyde.

    • david: Wow!! What an awesome day and ride the max temp was 30.2 degrees at Tarras. The fastest stage of the Tour at over 29K average and this included the climb up the Linda's Pass. The highlight of the day was seeing Mike's support team greeting him on the side of the road. they welcomed the rest of us but Mike was definitely the centre of attention, particularly by his young fan club who held up signs tellng the rest of us that he was better than the all of us and a legend in their eyes. Fair enough too! The rest of the 216 Ks went without a hitch and we just rolled along into clyde. Back on schedule!
